Grant Burge ‘League of Three’ Shiraz: a juicy-fruited bargain
Grant Burge ‘League of Three’ Shiraz brings us a ray of Australian sunshine on a cold winter’s night. A barbecue red, it’s also the perfect partner for a pasta supper or a meaty pie.
Grant Burge is an established name that can trace its roots back to its first wine in 1865 – thus banishing some of the nonsense we talk about the ‘New World’ – but it became part of the huge Accolade group a few years ago.
From the Barossa region, celebrated for its meaty, substantial Shiraz, grapes from the Limestone Coast are blended in to deliver a more approachable style, ready for drinking right away. In case you’re wondering, ‘League of Three’ is apparently a reference to “the trinity of people, land and faith” that inspires them.
Grant Burge ‘League of Three’ Shiraz, 2019 (usually £10 at Tesco but currently £8 on promotion, until 25/1) offers bright red fruit, blueberries and some jammy notes of plum, with red peppercorn spice and a lick of vanilla. With its silky tannins and fruity finish, it’s a well made wine that’s easy on the wallet. As it’s shipped in bulk and bottled in the UK, it’s also easier on the planet too.
